Lexicology
Lexicology is the study of linguistics in which the meaning and the usage of the words are specialised. Words are grouped into classes such as nouns, etc. These categories are known as parts of speech are described under the subheadings semantics, morphology and syntax but we’ll only discuss the semantics of these word classes.
Nouns
- Semantics: Nouns refers to things such as people, objects, creatures, abstract ideas, phenomena and qualities.
Verbs
- Semantics: verbs are doing words
Adjectives
- Semantics: adjectives are describing words that relate to shape, size, colour, evaluation etc.
Adverbs
- Semantics: added to verbs or adjectives to modify its meanings. They express things like time, manner and place.
Prepositions
- Semantics: it shows a relationship between the noun and another word in the sentence.
Conjunctions
- Semantics: conjunctions link clauses or parts of clauses together.
